Growing up without a brother meant that all things "little boy" were a mystery to me. I have since learned and delighted in many new things while raising a son. This weekend I got to experience my first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. So fun! :-)
As we arrived, I quickly realized why my husband and son had taken the building of the derby car so seriously!
After registration, a little more weight was added.
Some graphite was used to dry lubricate the axles.
And, a final weigh in revealed the car to be a perfect five ounces.
Aren't Pinewood Derbies fun? I have two boys and about 10 cars between then who have participated in them when they were in scouts. We've been fortunate enough to have one or both be in the top 3 each year and then move on to districts. The competition is much tougher at that level. I think the top 10 is the best we've done there. Fun-fun-fun all around, though.
ReplyDeleteOur Derby race is coming up soon!
ReplyDeletecongrats to him! i love that skull on the front. very cool.
ReplyDeletemy husband won when he was a kid, and we still have the trophy on display. i let him think it's because i'm proud of him, but secretly it's because it's wood and silver and very vintage/retro. ;)
i know he can't wait to do this with aedan and rhys someday...
Love your pictures. You really captured the day. We had our pinewood derby this past Sunday and my son won 1st place. We are so proud of him. All the kids were chanting his name. They were so happy for him, It was so cute. It is fun to see what all the kids come up with. Some are so creative. These are the memories they will remember always.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. :)
Congratulations!! I've never been to a derby myself but it does look like fun!
ReplyDeleteI remember my brother doing these in Boy Scouts! I think he still has his car! Congratulations to him on taking first place! Great job.
