Menu Plan Monday is Back!

The winds of change are blowing around here at Heritage Schoolhouse.  Next week my daughter will begin her sophomore year of high school, my son is going into junior high, I am starting back to work after staying home for fifteen years, and my son will begin playing on a competitive soccer team that will require travel most weekends.  Whew!   It is going to take awhile to adjust to our new routines.  I know one thing that I can do to make the transition smoother is for me to get back into the habit of routine menu planning.  When my children were little, and during the years we home schooled, I almost always menu planned, but after the kids started back to public school three years ago, I gradually stopped planning.  Mostly due to the fact that I had much less pressure to know what was for dinner each night.  I had the luxury of waiting until the last minute as well as the opportunity to stop by the store when I was in town after dropping the kids off at school or before I picked them up.  This year, after working all day and picking the kids up from school, stopping by the store around 5:00 pm will probably not be too high on my list of favorite activities!  I need to have a weekly plan and get my shopping done once a week. So, therefore, Menu Plan Monday is back!  I hope you get inspired to get your menus planned in advance, too, and if you have any favorite weeknight meals that your family loves, feel free to tell me about them in the comments.

  2. Bess and I started working together this summer. We started making Stir Fry Monday and then she loves pork so another meal would be pork chops or somehting else. (Bess likes Shake N Bake---and she helps!)

For school weeks, my best plan is to have about a week's worth of meals at the ready and go with what sounds good to me that Morning--I have to think ahead a little! Now, too, the kids schedules are sometimes changing during the day and we have to change plans. I just have ot make sure I've thawed what I want for the evening if it's frozen.

This week for us: Whole chicken in a crock pot, Mini Chicken Pot Pies (in muffin tins! never tried it yet), Beef Taco Soup, Homemade Pizza, Cheese Tortellini.

  3. Wow, big changes coming your way! I always plan my meals ahead of time. But, with the children starting school next week, I'll need to be even more diligent about prepping over the weekends. This is the first year we will have all three children in school full-time!

  4. I have followed your sweet blog for a few years now and have tried several of your recipes; they were all fabulous! :) My youngest just started Kindergarten this month. They were just young toddlers when I started to check out your blog. My does time fly. I wanted to share a recipe I made the other night that was a big hit with my husband. It is called Deboozies Blue Ribbon Chili and it is on All Recipes. It tastes just like Wendy's chili - only better! I hope your new transition has been smooth. Take care!
    Hugs,
    Lara
