The Old Fashinoned Way

I am really serious about slimming down this summer.
And I'm going to do it the old fashioned way.
Increased exercise and counting calories!

I am a firm believer that nothing is ever accomplished
without a plan!
So I worked up a little Slim Down Notebook
to keep me organized and accountable.

A page for weekly measurements,

and daily log pages -

to track meals,

water intake, exercise,

calories and fat.

Expect lots of motivational quotes to appear at Heritage Schoolhouse over the summer!

And don't worry, I will still be posting weekly menus and new recipes! I still have to feed my family. :-) Some meals might be a little lighter, but hopefully in a way that my family won't even notice. ;-)

Happy Summer Slim Down!

  1. I have been planning the same thing for myself. Now I know I can count on someone to encourage me! I look forward to some lighter recipes and such. I have been looking on the web for some so I will share when I find some! When are you starting or have you already?

  2. this is awesome, friend! i am not one to give out advice (probably mostly because i hate getting it most of the time), but i wanted to share this with you, and you can do whatever you want with it.

i am not a dieter. i am horrible at it. i've even tried counting my calories and stuff, and i end up cheating (somehow i can't see you doing that...haha).

it's been a real struggle to lose baby weight after having rhys, and my goal is to be where i was before i got pregnant with him by the time he is 2, which is august 9th.

i have been doing a semi-modified version of south beach diet, and it's the only thing i've found that makes me really drop pounds. and when i stop doing it, as long as i don't gorge carbs (which is tempting...), i don't gain any of it back. then i wait a while and do it again.

and i have the most amazing yoga DVDs from denise austin. they don't feel like exercise but they slim down what i have instead of just making me healthier. the one i am doing right now is yoga body burn. and i only do 15 minutes every day/every other day! so maybe after boot camp is over, just to have a quick way to maintain what you have gotten started, you could try it. i think you would love it.

  3. Hey Giggles - I can definitely encourage you as I try to encourage myself! :-)
I started yesterday and plan to work all summer long. Slowly loose so I can keep it off! Be sure and set some realistic goals and form a plan. And I really believe that 99% is mental. The only times I have successfully lost weight is when my mind has been firmly set to a goal.

Kristi - I appreciate your advice. I was able to get to prebaby weight after my youngest because I was only 28 and it was the year of my 10 year reunion. So my age and a good motivator helped a lot! After 35 it has become painfully obvious that I cannot eat whatever I want and not exercise. It will catch up with me! What I like about this boot camp is that if I am not loosing they will look at what I am eating and show me why! That is why I am going to keep prestine records. Thanks so much for the yoga video suggestion, I'll check it out - I have a yoga mat now for use at my boot camp. :-) I'm going to try to do some yoga on my Wii fit on my off days as well as run. I know you are going to meet your goal in August! I don't see how you have anymore to go though, from your pictures! :-)

  4. There must be something in the air. I have been working out and keeping a log of it everyday for almost two weeks now. I was thinking of starting a Fitness Friday Series or something. We all need to keep each other going right? Good luck.
p.s. That stir fry looked awesome. I am going to try that for my next week's meal plan. Thank you.

  5. I also have been planning to get healthier this summer. I think I will make a log to keep track. That will keep me more accountable. Great idea! I'm looking forward to your posts this summer. The stir fry recipe looks good. I am going to add it to my menu next week.

  8. I am starting a journey of my own this summer and am looking forward to blogging also :) I am going off sugar. I have arthritis and these two ingredents make a big difference for me. I am already on day 5 with no sugar! I am making my own mayo, which is so easy and not time consuming. I can't wait to post my recipies!

Of course, like you I have a family to feed, they are not going off sugar which is a test of my will power!

I am really looking forward to your new recipes! :)
