The chicks are 4 weeks old!

They are spending more and more time outside,
a bit longer each day.
They are getting used to this little yard which I will
put in their actual coop yard starting next week
as we begin introducing them to the hen house.

At four weeks, you can really see Jenna Rae's comb starting to form.

They love being outside!

Towards the end of the week they should be spending all day outdoors.

They have a little fit when they go back in the brooder. ;-)
But calm down after a bit.

We have now turned the heat lamp off.
They have plenty of feathers to stay comfortable at 75 degrees
which is about what our house temperature is.
With the red heat lamp off,
I am now turning a light on in the laundry room
when the sun comes up and turning it off at sundown.
We don't hear a peep out of them while the light is off!

"Build a little fence of trust
Around today;
Fill the space with loving work,
And therein stay;
Look not through the sheltering bars
Upon tomorrow,
God will help thee bear what comes,
Of joy or sorrow."

Sunday Songs

~A Hill Called Mt. Calvary~

There are things as we travel this earth shifting sands,
That transcend all the reason of man;
But the things that matter the most in this world,
They can never be held in our hand.

Refrain
I believe in a hill called Mt. Calvary,
I'll believe whatever the cost;
And when time has surrendered and earth is no more,
I'll still cling to that old rugged cross.

I believe that the Christ who was slain on the cross,
Has the power to change lives today;
For He changed me completely, a new life is mine,
That is why by the cross I will stay.

Refrain

I believe that this life with its great mysteries,
Surely someday will come to an end;
But faith will conquer the darkness and death,
And will lead me at last to my friend.

Chickens in the Yard

Mr. H. made a fun video for me of the chickens first time to go outside. I wanted to post the video here, but had trouble. If you click the link, it should take you to the video on youtube*.

*Please remember to always be careful viewing videos on youtube. You never know what you might get when you click on a video! And even when viewing safe videos, other small video screen captures along the right hand side bar can be offensive. Please be aware of this if viewing youtube with your children.

A Change of Scenery for the Chicks

The chicks spent a little time outdoors this evening.

They happily chirped, pecked, and ran around for almost an hour.
I think they really enjoyed it!

An old compost bin made the perfect little yard for them.

I am not sure who had more fun.

The chickens,

Mr. H. and I,

or Miss Daisy. :-)
