The chicks are 3 weeks old!
At three weeks, the chicks are half way through the indoor stage.
They are comfortable at 80 degrees.
And they have grown out of their small brooder.
Today they moved into a larger one!
and a hanging feeder and waterer,
similar to the ones that will be in their big coop.
They have quite a bit more room to roam now.
They spent some time checking out their new place.
Can you see Tammy's comb starting to form?
They've also been learning to roost!
And they're getting very good at it!

Strawberry Syrup
Strawberry Syrup
1 1/2 cups
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup water
1 cup crushed fresh strawberries
In a saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in water until smooth. Add strawberries. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat; cover and keep warm. Serve over waffles or pancakes and enjoy!
We received a heart shaped waffle iron as a wedding gift

Strawberry Spread
2 cups
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed
In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add sugar and vanilla; mix well. Stir in strawberries. Cover tightly and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. May be stored in the refrigerate up to 1 week. Serve on bagels, English muffins, or toast and enjoy!

Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings
Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings 6 servings
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup shortening
4 to 5 tablespoons cold water
2 cups chopped peeled tart apples
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup butter, cubed
vanilla ice cream, optional but highly recommended ;-)
Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Gradually add water, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12-in. x 18-in. rectangle. Cut into six squares. Place 1/3 cup chopped apples in the center of each square. Brush edges of dough with water; fold up corners to center and pinch to seal. Place in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 30 minutes. Combine brown sugar, water and butter; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat. Pour over dumplings. Bake 25-30 minutes longer or until apples are tender. Serve warm with ice cream if desired and enjoy!

The chicks are 2 weeks old!
They are growing up so fast! :-)
We raised the heat lamp again today.
The chicks are now comfortable at 85 degrees.
And we have the brooder covered with netting in case any of the chicks get too ambitious and try to fly up to the edge!
This is Tammy. She is very loud when we handle her.
From daily observation I had not noticed ear formation beginning, but saw it right away after uploading the 2 week pictures.
Did you know that a hen's ear color will be the same as the color of eggs that they lay?
Loretta Lynn had me concerned she was "pasting up" during her first week. She is doing just fine now.
And Dolly. Her feathers are coming in at such a beautiful color. 
Emmy Lou's feathers are getting more red. It is so much easier to quickly tell the three yellow chicks apart now!
And Miss Patsy, the easiet to handle the first week, now our little stinker! She also seems to be the tallest of the five so far.
