"The real things haven't changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong." ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
I made your macaroni and cheese recipe the other night. After it sat for about 15 minutes it became gritty. Can you tell me what I did wrong? Friday I will be making your beef stew:) PS. Those are beautiful puppy eyes
Mrs. Ruiz, The only thing I can think of is maybe you didn't whisk enough when you were preparing the white sauce? After you have combined the butter and flour, and whisked that smooth, you need to very gradually pour in the milk and whisk, whisk, whisk. Also, this recipe is going to be different than the "blue box" :-) - not quite as creamy. If you prefer you can use half velveeta cheese and half cheddar - I do that sometimes when I am catering to a younger set. ;-) My family prefers the sharp cheddar, though. I hope this helps! So sorry you had gritty mac 'n cheese. :-(
One more thing, Mrs. Ruiz, I know I said "whisk" five times in the above comment ;-) but I wanted to add that you can't do this with a spoon - a whisk is the only thing that will get it the right consistancy!
