New Doggie Digs

Mr. H. and our son have been working very hard on
a new dog run for Bubba and Remi.
They've been in separate smaller pens,
but we wanted them to have a lot more room and
to be able to be together.

They poured concrete and set posts.

And they used the panels of one of the pens for the front of the new run.

They have about four times the amout of room they had previously.
And they have so much fun being together!

Bubba, particularly, is enjoying the splash pool!

It will help keep them cool during our hot Texas summer temps.

Spring Gardens

Mr. H. and I finally got going on our gardening for the year!

In the last month we've had work, travel,
out of town soccer games
(my daughter's high school team went four rounds in the playoffs!!)
sickness (me) and a sprained ankle (him).

Needless to say, extra time has been hard to come by. ;-)

Mr. H. got me a truck load of gardening soil
and built several raised beds.

He lined each one with weed barrier.

While he was doing that,
I was busy weeding out the horribly over grown cutting garden.
I planted sunflowers, zinnias, and daisies. :-)

This year in the vegetable garden we planted -

tomatoes, peppers, squash, okra, cucumbers, beans, and carrots.

~a picket fence~

Mr. H. recently built a little fence to close in a portion of our front yard
so the doggies can enjoy being outside and still be safe.

I've always wanted a little picket fence. :-)

While it was being built,
we thought we were going to paint it white
to match the trim of the house.

But, I ended up liking the natural wood so much,
that I think we've decided not to paint it just yet.

Love the morning and evening sun on it.

Now my "babies" can enjoy laying out in the sunshine
and I don't have to worry about them wandering off.

The sweetness of a picket fence! :-)

The pool is open for the summer!

We had a lot of trouble keeping water in our pool last year
at our new place.
The ground looked level, but it wasn't!
This year Mr. H. spent several days preparing a level spot
before he sat the pool up for the summer.

And, of course I was fascinated with the process!
First he used stakes and string to lay out the boundary
and see how much drop there was in the ground.

Then a dump truck backed through our yard
with a load of dirt.

It backed right up to the string boundary,

and dumped the load of dirt that Mr. H. had ordered.

It's too bad my four year old nephew wasn't here.

I have a feeling he would have thought the dump truck
was pretty cool. ;-)

Then Mr. H. removed the string and stakes,

and made a permanent form for the pool area.

Then it was time to spread the dirt!

He made an nifty little contraption to level the dirt.

When the ground was level,
he spread out a tarp
and set up the pool.

And now I don't have to spend my summer
hollering at children to not lean on the side of the pool!!!
Which I might have said once
or a thousand times last year.;-)

Thank you Mr. H.!!!

The pool
is open!

Fenced In!

I helped Mr. H. hang the barnyard gate this evening!

And, with that, the barnyard is entirely fenced.
On tomorrow afternoon's agenda...wing clipping.
Wish us luck! ;-)
