Opening Weekend

Opening weekend of deer season is like a holiday for my family.
We headed out to the lease Friday evening and Mr. H. and my son got up
early Saturday morning to sit in the deer blind for a few hours.

My daughter, Daisy and I slept in. :-)

After the boys got back to camp,
Mr. H. took me with him to put out a new pipe feeder
he had built.

And to show me the new deer blind
his friend had brought out for this season.

He made it out of a shipping container.
I thought it was very nice.

It has a carpet remnant on the floor
and it comfortably seats two hunters with room for a little heater.

It has windows on all sides that can be opened or closed.

My son hunted from the tripod stand.

One of Mr. H.'s very best friends and his Dad
are sharing the lease with him this year.

Daisy and I like to do lots of exploring during the middle of the day
when the hunters are resting.

Mid afternoon we headed into the bustling ;-) town of
Richland Springs to eat a late lunch at the Stagecoach Restaurant.

My family ordered one of their favorite things on the menu -

"fire starters." :-)

Then we headed a little farther down the road to the next
town of San Saba - the "Pean Capital of the World."

We visited The Great San Saba River Pecan Company.

And I came home with a bag of the best tasting pecans,
some roasted pecan coffee and pecan fudge.

As the day began to wind down,
the hunters prepared to leave for the evening hunt.

Off they go!

Back at camp all that was left for me to do was
a little reading, a little knitting,

and

a little sunset watching. :-)

At the deer lease...

I love weekends at the deer lease.
Especially when the weather is nice
and we get to borrow brother-in-law's rv. :-)

And this weekend,
my daughter got an 8 point!

Weekend at the Lease

As you probably know, Mr. H. is a hunter.  It's what he does. :-)

In years past I've always stayed home with babies when he heads off
on hunting trips or for weekends at the deer lease.
But, these days...the babies go, too!

So, I decided to tag along to the lease with the rest of the family
for the first weekend of deer season this year!

Mr. H. is on a lease by himself this year out in west Texas.
The property has a little, hundred year old farm house on it.

Mr. H., my daughter, and my son all hunt.

But not me. :-)
I joke that I spend my days tending and nurturing animals
and they stalk them! ;-)

The lease has a lovely pecan grove on it.

Mr. H. has put several feeders and deer blinds on the lease.

Some close friends of ours are on the adjoining lease.

Bubba and Daisy came along for the ride
and kept me company when the family was off hunting.

I enjoyed walking around the yard of the house
during the early mornings and evenings when everyone was gone.

Just thinking about who might have lived out here long ago.
Who might have used the well, the old root cellar, and the corrals.

I might, or might not, have pretended I was a pioneer woman. ;-)
