Do you know what's really fun?

Hearing from a dear friend that you lost touch with
twenty-two years ago!
Wow! :-)

Downtown Chicago

Nathan Hale statue at the Chicago Tribune Tower

"Nathan Hale (June 6, 1755September 22, 1776) was an officer for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Widely considered America's first spy, he volunteered for an intelligence-gathering mission, but was captured by the British. He is best remembered for his speech before being hanged following the Battle of Long Island." ~ from Wikipedia

"I only regret that I have but one life to give my country." ~Nathan Hale

Chicago's Sears Tower was the world's tallest building from 1974 until 1998. Currently, it is still the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.

Mama Mia!

You gotta have pizza in Chicago!

Chicago deep dish - the sauce is on the top.

And let me tell you, midwesterners are not afraid to pile on the cheese! Even thin crust pizza has about three times the cheese we're use to in Texas! :-)

Beauty by the Pool

Eatin' Chicago Style

My husband and daughter are currently in love with a new discovery - the "Chicago" style hot dog.

"an all beef hot dog buried in a steamed poppy seed bun, with mustard, relish, fresh chopped onions, tomato, kosher pickle, celery salt, and sport peppers"

My son is still partial to the chili cheese dog, called a "Dallas" dog here in Chicago! ;-)

Traveling Entertainment

other than the scenery of course! ;-)

1776 by David McCullough - on audio book, recorded by the author. I highly recommend.

~for today~
Monday, August 18th

outside my window...
is the lovely state of Wisconsin.

I am thinking...
about breakfast!

I am thankful for...
my husband who always protects and provides
...and keeps me in stitches! :-)

From the kitchen...
nothing until I get home.
I love to travel, but I do miss cooking so much!

I am wearing...
my favorite pink with white polka dots "1950's pajama party" pjs.

I am creating...
a home away from home.

I am going...
to Chicago today.

I am reading...
"Little House Country" by William Anderson.

I am hoping...
we don't miss the hotel free breakfast. ;-)

I am hearing...
my family sleeping.

Around the "house"...
suitcases, wet swimsuits, travel brochures.

One of my favorite things...
seeing our beautiful country.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
enjoy the time of travel and vacation with my family.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

Beautiful Iowa

Blue skies, green crops, white farm houses and red barns. That is Iowa and it is beautiful!

On the Banks of Plum Creek!

This was my most favorite place! My family was all alone at the dugout site. I wish I could have bottled the sights, sounds, and smells of Plum Creek. I loved standing at the dugout sight and hearing my children splash and play in Plum Creek right where Laura and Mary did!
