3 weeks old

The kittens are three weeks old today.
Their momma was Reeses
and we think their daddy was a barn cat that my daughter had named Poncho.

So my daughter took those names
and decided to name the kittens, Leche

Chiclet

Chupa

and Dulce.

5 years!

Five years ago I sat down and decide to start a little blog. :-)
I've had lots of fun and met many kindred spirits since that day.
I hope to continue sharing simple pleasure with each of you
for many more years to come!
Thank you for visiting Heritage Schoolhouse. :-)

Looking back -

Scenes from an Evening Walk

The kittens are doing well.

They were two weeks old yesterday.

First blossoms on the tomato plants,

and the peppers.

The green beans look good.

The potato plants and onions are starting to wilt and fall over.
I think we'll harvest sometime this week.

I'm still waiting on my herbs outside to emerge,
but the ones in the kitchen indoors have started to sprout.

Dolly and Loretta enjoying  the evening.

Sweet Miss Dolly.

Sunflowers!

Lots of dewberries on the stump in the front yard.

The bluebonnets are starting to go to seed.

Love the wild chamomile!

And the honeysuckle on our front property line.

Dolly girl.

And the black eyed susans are just starting to appear.

Corn and Tomato Pasta Salad

Corn and Tomato Pasta Salad
4 servings

recipe adapted from Sunset magazine

Fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients!
I'm all about cooking with fresh ingredients right now.
It happens every year about this time. ;-)

8 ounces orzo pasta
1 cup light sour cream
2 teaspoons lemon zest
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
fresh corn kernels from two ears of corn
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
1 1/2 cups halved grape tomatoes
several fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced

Boil pasta according to package directions; rinse until cool.
Combine sour cream, salt, pepper, lemon zest and lemon juice.
Toss pasta with corn, onion, tomatoes and basil.
Add dressing and mix until combined.
Enjoy!

5/5/13 Edited to add - This is definitely a "better the next day" salad.
I am enjoying some for lunch today and the flavors
really blended nicely in the fridge over night.  Yum!

Reeses Had Kittens!

Four sweet kittens were born early this morning.
Mr. H. discovered them and quickly put a heat lamp on them.
Momma Reeses was very appreciative. :-)

She lost her first litter last year
and it's so sweet to see her getting to take care of these babies.
She is a good momma. :-)

I had to go find some pictures of her when she was just a kitten herself. :-)
