It's National Sugar Cookie Day!


Sugar Cookies
3 1/2 dozen

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
additional sugar

Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture. Shape into 1in. balls. Roll in sugar. Place on baking sheet and flatten with a glass. Bake at 350° for 12 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet for 3 minutes. Transfer to racks to cool completely. Pour a glass of cold milk and enjoy!
